About Us
In Memory of Sassy
December 2004-August 2019
Welcome to Sassy Swimmers! These are my two beautiful Aussie dogs Sassy and Calypso. Sassy, the one in the wheelchair, had Degenerative Myelopathy. This is how my journey began in Canine Swimming. Sassy had been struggling with this disease for over two years. I have tried everything to keep her strong and functioning on her legs as much as possible. I have a swimming pool and learned very quick that it was working better than any other therapy I was doing for her. During the winter months I was unable to afford to heat my pool just for her so I looked and looked for a place for her to swim. I tried treadmill water therapy and it helped some but not near as much as actually swimming in my pool. So my journey has led me on this path. I do not want anyone to have to go through seeing their dog suffer from weakness when swimming keeps them so so strong. So here I am teaching Canine Swimming and making my pool available for dogs to come swim in and around Birmingham. I would love to be a part of your dogs life, helping to keep them happy and strong.
